[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]We’d like to tell you about Slick Sam, one of five WAW Academy trainees featured in the BBC documentary series Step Into The Ring. The series highlighted the battles these five wrestlers face against physical and mental disabilities, and how the sport of professional wrestling helps them overcome these issues.
Sam has Down’s syndrome but that didn’t stop him from wanting to become a professional wrestler, training every single week for over a year ahead of his debut match. The documentary showed you snippets of Sam’s match but we can now present the entire match in full on YouTube!
Sam’s dream came true in front of a packed-out crowd at the WAW Academy show on October 20th 2019.
His debut match was against one of his trainers, PJ Knight, who stole the mask and ring gear of former WAW Open Light Heavyweight champion Villman, to give Sam more of the spotlight in their match.
The UK Hooligans, Zak & Roy Knight, entered to introduce Slick Sam as the newest member of the Hooligans. This led to an impromptu “Let’s Go Mental” chant from the crowd, a signature cheer for the Hooligans.
Referee Rob Butler called for the bell before providing Sam with his comb – a professional wrestler has to look their best in the ring.
We won’t spoil the rest of the match for you but we can assure you that it has a stunning ending!
After the match, the notorious Tommy Lee interrupted Sam and the Hooligans after the match. Lee offered Sam a place in his villainous Midas Stable. Watch through to the end of the video to find out whether he chose to join Midas or remain with the UK Hooligans.[/vc_column_text][vc_video link=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y85OC8dAdwY” align=”center” title=”Straight Outta WAW Academy Special – Slick Sam’s Debut (Full Match)”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
